What is Dialysis?

Dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure. When your kidneys stop working due to any reason there is a build-up of harmful toxins and fluid in your body. The accumulation of toxins and extra fluids can cause various unpleasant symptoms and be can even get life-threatening. 

Dialysis is a treatment that helps in removing these toxins and extra fluid from the body when the kidneys are not performing their task. This filtration occurs across a thin membrane or semipermeable membrane.

Who needs dialysis?

Dialysis is a treatment option for people having chronic kidney disease stage 5. It is also used as a treatment when the kidneys stop working acutely due to other causes such as severe infections.

Your doctor will do various tests to determine your kidney function and the level of damage.

There are two types of dialysis that are used currently:

  • Peritoneal dialysis
